Coachella Recap

This post is sponsored by Socialstars for Crowdtap #CoachellaHerbalista
Since I'm now officially a Cali girl, I was so excited when Crowdtap reached out to me about going to Coachella on behalf of Herbal Essences! I've always wanted to go, and it seemed like the perfect time to finally experience the much beloved three day music festival--not to mention the line up was amazing this year.

Those of you who have asked about my hair routine may remember my obsession with Herbal Essences "Color Me Happy" shampoo and conditioner; I've used it since high school. It's technically for colored hair, but it's really moisturizing and I think it's great for dry hair as well. The best part? It smells so good. Like, getting stopped on the street by strangers and asked what perfume I'm wearing good. So, I was super stoked to learn that they've made it into a body wash, "Happy Go Lather" (along with four other options). Now I can have my signature scent even on the days I don't wash my hair!  I tried the different body washes at Coachella, where showers are VERY necessary, and they all left me smelling equally delicious.

Three other bloggers were invited: An of HautePinkPretty, Elizabeth of A Keene Sense of Style, and McKenna of McKennaBleu. They were such sweethearts and because we spent three days together, we got to bond a lot more than we would have at your typical blogger event. Highlights of the weekend included seeing Kid Cudi, HAIM, Bastille, Solange, Lorde, and OutKast. I'm still kicking myself for being too much of an old lady to stay up for Pharell! I've seen him a few times live, but he had some amazing guests come out, including Jay-Z.
How cute are these glam safari tents we stayed in?

pencil me in

I used to think pencil skirts were reserved for an office setting, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I'm loving all of the chic options popping up because they are perfect for taking you from day to night. I don't have a typical job, but I'm often at business meetings, and a printed pencil skirt paired with a modern blazer is my version of office appropriate. The one I'm wearing below is from eloquii (which just might be the best plus size store right now), but for more of my favorite skirt options, check out my latest eBay collection here.

Hope you're not too sick of this vest yet--it's so perfect I can't take it off!  photo eloquii-2014_zpsbf1e428d.jpg photo gabifresh-eloquii-2014_zps7486dbf8.jpg photo gabifresh-eloquii-skirt-2014_zps837420a0.jpg photo gabifresh-eloquii-skirt-2014-2_zps08806883.jpg photo Gabi2-023_zps5acddade.jpg photo pink-flowers-tree-LA_zps99fc2351.jpg

cut for evans

When the Cut for Evans collection debuted a while back, there was a collective sigh of relief in the plus size community. Finally: cute, fashion forward statement pieces that fit well! The UK brand enlisted help from up and coming fashion designers who created bright, printed pieces that could've fit seamlessly into any TopShop or H&M lookbook. I immediately bought the button up blouse and trousers set, and was super impressed with the quality of fabric; it's stretchy but not cheap, and it doesn't wrinkle. I'm a big fan of printed sets, but even I had to ask my sister if wearing these intense pieces together looked "cute like Solange or crazy like a clown"--she reassured me that I looked great, and after seeing the photos, I have to agree. I definitely encourage everyone to go for it by wearing bold prints, but if wearing them on top and bottom is a bit too much for you, pair one piece with a solid. Check out some of my favorite printed pieces in my eBay collection here. photo gabifresh-printed-suit-cut-for-evans-2014-2_zps05d17496.jpg photo gabifresh-cut-for-evans-2014_zps333bea49.jpg Speaking of Solange Knowles, my best friend shares her name and is equally as awesome. Solange Franklin and I met in high school, went to college together, and have been inseparable since (she came to Turks & Caicos with me!). We used to read fashion magazines together and wonder if we'd ever get to be a part of that world--something we thought unlikely since we were at a liberal arts school with no fashion experience. Cut to six years later: we took very different paths, but both ended up successful in the industry. After a few magazine internships (including Teen Vogue, in which she was just profiled), Solange went on to assist internationally renowned stylist, Giovanna Battaglia and has helped style numerous shoots for Vogue Japan, Vogue Italia and W. And now she's branching out on her own, too--she was the head stylist of this Rita Ora Paper Magazine cover!!! Recently she teamed up with Canadian jewelry brand Alynne Lavigne to design the amazing gold plated numeral pin that I'm wearing in these photos. It's absolutely gorgeous and I couldn't be more proud of her!

GabiFresh x SwimsuitsForAll 2014

I'm so excited I can finally announce that I collaborated with swimsuitsforall again this year, designing a special bikini for their Swim Sexy collection! That's the real reason I was in Turks and Caicos, I wasn't just on vacay.

I love this print--totally reminds me of the 90s (and Saved By the Bell!) and I think the neon colors look amazing on the beach. I'm really into longline bras, so I made sure to include that element, and the cutouts at the hip and bust add some cool detail. And yes, this has underwire! Hope you guys love it as much as I do. It's available in sizes 8-24, and you can pre-order it tomorrow NOW on the swimsuitsforall website here. It ships in two weeks! photo gabifresh-fatkini-2014_zpsf4084e78.jpg
