I'm finally feeling a bit better, so I was able to get out of the house for the first time in a week! To celebrate, I broke out the tulle skirt and faux leather belt sent to me by the lovely ladies from CarmaKoma. (As much as I've raved about the brand in the past, I'd never actually had the chance to purchase anything!) Of course, my instinct was to pair the poofy skirt with a form fitting black top, but I decided last minute to add some interest by wearing a flowy, colorful blouse from H&M.

Happy Turkey Day

Happy Thanksgiving! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I am ridiculously sick. I think I may have H1N1, but I've been feeling a tiny bit better with each day that passes. I just wanted to update to let you guys know the winner of the Jen's Fashion Plus Contest:
Congrats to the 28th commenter, Bianca/Zaftigchicks! Email me your mailing address and a link to the item of your choice.

And, because I hate blog posts without pictures, here are a few things I am grateful for:

My family

My friends

And, of course, all of you! Have a good day, guys!

Contessa on StyleLikeU

When I first saw Contessa Stuto on Musings of a Fatshionista a few months ago (Christina posted a picture of her from Zana's blog), I immediately fell in love with her style. I started following her on Twitter, and when she mentioned she was going to be featured on StyleLikeU, one of my favorite blogs, I almost peed my pants. I wish the video was longer, but it's great nonetheless.

Slip Up

I love the idea of wearing undergarments as everyday wear, so today I thought I'd rock a slip as a dress. I originally bought the red blazer when I planned on dressing up as Michael Jackson for Halloween. Since I didn't end up using it, I decided to chop off the bottom and wear it as a cropped jacket (it was pretty hideous before).

For another amazing outfit, check out J in her ASOS cage dress!

Chaka at Evans

Chaka Khan may not be young, but she is definitely fat and fabulous. She has recently teamed up with Evans, and I am surprisingly happy with the result. The looks are youthful and fresh (though admittedly not very innovative), and Chaka has never looked better. Most importantly, do you see those amazing wide width over the knee boots? The search is over, ladies. Must. Have.

Shop these looks!
(Evans is also having a sale! 20% off partywear and lingerie!)

Edit: The boots are now sold out in most sizes. I guess I wasn't the only one who thought they were amazing (they just debuted this morning)! Hopefully Evans will restock soon.

I'm happy to announce that I am hosting yet another giveaway, this time sponsored by Jen's Fashion Plus! The winner will receive any one item of her choice. All Black Everything

Sorry for the hiatus! My social life lately has been less than stellar, which means my outfits haven't been very inspired. I was waiting for an occasion to break out my black faux fur vest and string net tights, but I figured I should stop waiting and start wearing. It's true fur adds bulk, but I have never been one of those fat girls that uses clothing as a way to look slimmer.

Hey, Doll

I've styled a good number of people in my life, but never have I styled an illustrated character...until now. When I saw Melody Moore post a fabulous illustrated plus size girl in the Fatshionista community, I asked her if she would be willing to share some of her work with my readers. We collaborated via e-mail and decided that I would send over links to outfits I put together, and she would draw them up. I couldn't be happier with the result! I like this method so much more than photoshopping simple wishlists. Let me know what you guys think!

Get These Looks!

Valita is, hands down, the flyest fat girl I have ever met (we had the pleasure of hanging out in NYC). Known for wearing bright colors, cropped jackets and mini skirts, V's style is flawless. Seriously, her hair is fierce, her eyebrows are always perfectly arched, and her nails are never bare. Whenever I see her pictures, I am always inspired to bring my A game.

Name: Valita a.k.a. V.a. Doll
Age: Forever 21+2
Location: Washington, DC
Size: 14-18
Favorite places to shop: My grandmother’s closet, my Aunt Gaby’s costume jewelry drawer/ various makeup baskets (she is a notorious shopaholic, it’s like at her house), and the usual suspects: H&M, Urban Outfitters, thrift stores, flea markets and everywhere in between.
Fashion Icons: Audrey Hepburn has timeless, classic style. Other than her I just have an affinity for all bad/bossy chicks. It’s less about their clothes and more about how they use their clothes to convey whatever they're pumping at that time (for example when J. Lo was at her prime, when Kimora Lee Simmons was fabulous, when Lauryn Hill was the one). I also admire Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Coco Chanel, the list could go on. It’s more about style than fashion. I enjoy fashion as a tool, but fashion fades, style is timeless.
Current Obsession: Fur, suede, leather and of course always bright, rich colors (I’m from DC), boots, and dope haircuts.
Advice to other YFF Girls: Feel your beat now or forever hold your peace, meaning live out loud now because time is the one thing you can’t get back. You’re young, do the most while you can get away with it. Work with what you have and live today not tomorrow, because tomorrow may never come. Fill up every room with whatever is special about you.

For the record, Valita does not have a blog. I will always let you know if the girls I feature have one!

Beth Ditto on

I know there are a ton of people who don't like Beth Ditto's style, but she is literally my fashion hero. Of course pictures of her outfits are wonderful, but whenever I see her do interviews, I am always left inspired. Watch this clip of her from to see what I mean:

A very big congratulations to Olivia, the winner of the YFF $100 Giveaway! The decision was way harder than I imagined, but I loved that her outfit was so simple and chic. Navy and black is one of my favorite color combinations, and the leather accents finish the look perfectly.

If I had the money, I would give $100 to each person who entered because you all looked amazing. If it's possible, I think I love my readers even more now! Here are ten more ladies whose outfits I adored:

(Feel free to leave complimentary comments, but please refrain from saying "so and so should have won")

Thanks again to everyone who sent in a photo!
