Red, White and...Black

Photobucket

Happy Memorial Day! I came home (to Detroit) to celebrate, and it's been ridiculously hot here. Of course this weekend has been full of BBQs, so my outfits have been pretty casual. Today I wore the ASOS Curve Fox Tee (that I'm sure you've seen on many bloggers by now) with my great black tap shorts by Torrid. I started the day with the tee tucked in, but I think I like it better worn out with my red short-sleeved blazer on top. The lovely Rachel of Fennimas Jewelry sent me the amazing earrings (along with a necklace I can't wait to show you)!

Ruby Belle

Recently, I've noticed a shift in my personal style. Of course I will always have a special place in my heart for all things black and bodycon, but I've found myself more and more attracted to items that are light, bright, and flowy. (I think ASOS Curve's white lace dress is to blame). Maybe that's why the new Evans collection, Ruby Belle, though completely outside of my normal aesthetic, is super adorable to me. Inspired by 1950s American culture, the line consists of bright prints that channel your inner housewife. Flamingos on an A-line mini dress? Love it. I want to throw on some white cat eye sunglasses and head to the nearest drive-in.

If you want more fun items this summer, Simply Be also just launched two new collections, African Beat and Hot Tropic. Check 'em out.

Short Story

I've never been a huge fan of shorts, but the recent resurgence of the culotte trend has made me reconsider. Most of you saw me pick up the floral ones in my Forever21 Vogue video, and I'd been waiting until a hot day to break them out. It's been super gloomy in Chicago, but when I found out it would be warm today, I knew exactly what to wear. I paired them with this strong-shouldered blazer sent to me by SimplyBe, a UK retailer that will start shipping to the U.S. this July! (It may look familiar, J has the same one).

I was invited to a Marshalls/TJMaxx event this morning, and it was amazing. I plan on vlogging about it later, but for now I'll just say that I got a $100 gift card and I found a ton of great stuff. The Betsey Johnson sunglasses are definitely a new favorite (I got them in another color too), and I'd been on the hunt for a straw fedora forever. (Yes, I realize they were popular four years ago. Don't care.) Oh, and I took out my extensions! I definitely look like the fifth member of The Beatles.

Meet the girl behind the blog Messy Carla. Her playful personal style is apparent through her use of bright colors and great accessories. From her metallic shoes to her heart-shaped sunglasses, an outfit of hers is never dull. Besides, anyone who can look that good on a rainy day gets my approval!

Plus Models in French Marie Claire

Last week's release of French Glamour's blogger feature sparked a buzz questioning why the U.S. is so slow to embrace plus size women in fashion. While the press surrounding fatshion has undoubtedly increased in the past few months, most of it has seemingly come from overseas. Most recently, the June issue of French Marie Claire features plus size models Hayley Morley and Laura Catterall in this summer's hottest swimwear and lingerie.  They look simply gorgeous, of course, but I must admit that I'm crossing my fingers that more of these editorials show up in American mags. What do you guys think?

What are your top picks for this season's bathing suits? Check out Musings of a Fatshionista to see a collection of her faves.

PS- Check out another amazing editorial featuring Crystal Renn in Tush Magazine. Do you guys like seeing fatshion news/plus size editorials on YFF, or would you rather me stick to just showing my outfits? Let me know!

Fatshionistas in French Glamour

Sorry for the lack of updates! I'm having camera issues, but things should be resolved this weekend. In other news, Fatshionistas were featured in the June issue of French Glamour Magazine! The lovely French bloggers Stephanie, Sakina, and Kylanita (please check out their blogs if you haven't) look amazing in their spread . J, Lilli and myself were also mentioned! This is a huge honor, and I can't wait to get the hard copy in my hands.

Since I last posted, I was also named one of the 40 Bloggers Who Really Count by the Times Online, and Faith21 reposted my Vogue video with a special intro by yours truly (and you can also shop my picks)! Lastly, the bloggers going to the YFF Conference interviewed the Head Designer at Evans, and that's posted on our main website. Make sure you check those out.
