Every Body is a Bikini Body

So it's the time of year when everyone you know is trying to lose weight because summer is approaching and they want to look good in a swimsuit. Newsflash: you don't have to lose weight to look good in a swimsuit. I hate the message that only certain bodies are allowed to wear bikinis or be on a beach. Don't let other people dictate what you wear. If the sight of my body makes people cringe, that's their problem, not mine.

I've been on the search for the perfect vintage-inspired bikini for a while, and I finally found one that I love from figleaves.com. I'm in Vegas for work, so yesterday I broke out my two-piece and went for a dip with my co-workers!

  21. work it honey!!!! I got a high waisted black bottom, and wear it with a bunch of different bikini tops. It definitely makes me feel more sexy and empowered. One pieces can be very flattering and sexy too, but why limit ourselves to just that, right? Love your big curls! You look fantastic!

    I know this may sound creepy but when you wear outfits, I can see myself in them as well because we're about the same size (I'm slightly bigger though) and I'm light as well, and also transitioning my hair to natural so, I'm wearing my hair curly these days (well, tighter roller sets and braid out with spiral tips). Thanks for the photos :)

  41. I LOVE your suit!! And I totally agree. Born + raised in Hawai'i, I spent the first 15 years of my life hiding in one-pieces and under long shirts and surf shorts. And then one day my friend said I should try a two piece. I did, and I went to the beach... and I realized that the only thing different was ME. My attitude about being able to wear a bikini had changed. When I became comfortable in my own skin, my beach experiences became much more fun!

  54. So I love you, your blog is amazing, it is actually one of the ones that inspired me to start my own This swimsuit is killer and the hair is great, although I am somewhat biased, having (and loving) big curly hair myself.
    I love that you post swimwear, only recently in my life have I become comfortable enough with my own body to wear one in public without like two or three different forms of cover ups. Meaning that I almost never actually got in the pool. Having forums, like this, really aided me in getting past those specific insecurities.

  119. Yes its too bad they didn't look at the one plus size web site that is really pushing the boundaries above and beyond of what is currently offered. There are many brands out there that specialist in clothing for youngsters and teenagers. If you want to stay with the trend, you can always go to one of these stores and look at the new designs and trends and shop for yourself. However, all the while, you do have to keep in view that whatever you get should look good on you. Thank you.

  145. I agree with you! If only I could find a top that fit.. even the site you linked to seemed to only go to a 38 band size. Finding a 40C seems pretty impossible! All the larger bikini sites seem to start at a D and the smaller ones stop at a 36 or 38 band. by the way- you look *fantastic* - I'm loving the hot pink!

  152. I totally agree with you. Every damn year it's all "working out for that summer bikini body - you can still make it !" It's never "bikini for every body type and size", only very very few places :(

    I'm a size US 8/10 and I have a hard time finding clothes that fit me properly, and don't get me started on lingerie/swimwear. I'm a hourglass but everything seems to be made for straight up and down bodies :(

    Anyways, am a new reader/follower of your blog, and yes you're incredibly beautiful and you look so confident and relaxed which is the most important thing :)

    1. Isn't that interesting? As a plus size girl, who is "banana-shaped" (i.e. pretty straight up and down, few curves) I have an almost impossible time finding clothing (and I mostly just wear men's clothing to get around this). But I find it fascinating that if you're smaller or average sized, clothing is designed to fit that way, but if you're a big girl you're *supposed* to be curvy (and have big breasts! I'm small breasted and cannot find a bra to save my life) and if you don't... well, you're SOL.
