Recently, I was at Goodwill and came across a gorgeous silk dress with a jaw-dropping print. There was absolutely no way I was walking out of the store without it. It was a size 8, but I knew I would do whatever it took to make it work for me. When I got home, I cut the seams up the side, threw it over a pleated skirt, and put a belt around it. Voila! My favorite part about this dress is the contrasting cow-like print on the shoulders--such a small but perfect detail.

Congrats on the Glamour mag feature! You go girl!!! You are such an inspiration to so many of us "fat girls". You always tell it like it is & could care less about what anyone thinks of you. Thank you for staying true to you and keeping it real with your readers/followers. You have inspired me to become a better me and to love the fat skin I'm in. It's because of you that I stopped limiting myself to just "plus size" clothing. I shop anywhere now and I stopped looking at size.
ReplyDeleteMuch love~ Nique
I adore your philolosphy on shopping and fashion!! That dress looks AMAZING on you!!! Congrats on being featured in Glamour!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the feature! What a grand opportunity! I love your "make it work" philosophy! (Well, not yours per se, but hey, you do it so well, you get at least some credit for it). This dress turned out really nice and you look so fabulous in it!

That is genius! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThe shoulder print is like a strange camo...very random for such a bright dress! Strangely, it does work though! Great job on being creative with the fit of the dress!
ReplyDeleteIt's so imaginative how you changed the dress. I really love the pattern and the shoulders added touch. Really, really love your style!

Gabi, you are such a breath of fresh air!!!!! I'm always inspired when I see your BLOG POST!! Keep up the GREAT JOB and you look GREAT as always!!!
ReplyDeleteI saw a quick post on coco & creme and wrote a response about the negative responses you were receiving about your willingness to support plus size fashion. The GREAT thing that I have taken away from readying all the different fashion blogs is that your 'MAKE IT WORK' mentality sticks to my shopping heart! Sure I can love a new plus size line, but the more I start to look at clothes for beauty rather than size, I see that I can fit into it and/or style it to be fabulous. Designers have their intentions, but we as ladies of fashion can have our intentions of how to make a piece look AMAZING on us. Thank you so much for the three years you've dedicated to blogging!
ReplyDeleteHey Gabi! I love your blog & your "ignore the rules philosophy". You have truly inspired me to begin to embrace myself as I am and to STOP saying that "I can't pull that off". I am one of those inbetweeners (size 16) & I have the hardest time because plus size clothing are mostly too big in the thighs & boob area, but straight sizes are too small. UGH! Anyway, where do you find these oh so HAWT moto jackets like the one you're wearing in the Glamour mag feature? I can't find one in my size ANYWHERE!!! I've been wanting one for 2 years.
ReplyDeleteI am almost irate I never thought to do that before! :)
ReplyDeleteI have turned down countless dresses because they were sized too small for me! Never again! LOL
Gabs, have you taken any sewing classes? Or did someone teach you? I want to get brave with the frankenstein fashion method, but my sewing skills are limited :(
ReplyDeleteYou are SO creative. I would have never thought of doing that. That gives me a new idea. Also, kudos to being in the magazine! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the feature and just say I am a new follower and I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteLove your earrings, and Congrats on the feature!

What a inspiration you are.
ReplyDeleteI love it gabi I am believer in the "make it work" movement as well a lot plus size women won't even go in straight size clothing stores. I still do because even if nothing may fit me the accessories bags and shoes are still great plus I have a great seamstress (my mom) and I work her every chance I get lol.....btw thanks for the comment

that thrifted dress looks fabulous on you Gabi!! I've been a long time reader of yours for almost 2 years now and you have inspired me to start my own blog that has been up and running for a year and a half! You were my first inspiration to appreciate my curves for what they are! Keep working it love!! NY finally realizes what voluptuous women are capable of!

Congrats to you, Gabi! Being a 20-something who is also curvy and luscious, seeing such recognition makes me proud! Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletei love the "make it work" philosophy. i think plus-sized women are often forced to subscribe to labels or categories and i love that you have shrugged all of that off to make any style or size work for you. it's truly inspiring to me (you even inspired me to start my own fashion blog!)... thank you for continuing to exude confidence and inspire ladies of all sizes to be fashionable in their own right. :)
