I just got back from a fantastic trip to Vegas with my boyfriend (don't worry, no drive-through wedding)! We had the best time, and of course I couldn't wait for an excuse to break out this year's bikini. I wore a vintage-inspired black and white striped one from SimplyBe that makes my enormous boobs look even bigger but I don't care--I loved the pattern too much to pass it up! With the white shades I was totally channeling my inner Wendy Peffercorn.
As always, I truly encourage you guys to get to the beach (or a pool) this summer--don't let body shame keep you from having a good time! I don't expect everyone to feel comfortable in a two piece, but hopefully I can inspire some of you to take the plunge. I can't tell you how freeing it is to just have fun without worrying about what other people think.

ReplyDeleteI'm a major fan of wearing bikinis and 2 pieces regardless of size. I'm a lot bigger than you and if I make it to the water this year, I'll definately be rockin the kini.I figured out years ago that one piece swimsuits weren't making me look any thinner, only difference was the one piece hides skin. A two piece is so much more comfortable (especially since I'm different sizes on top and bottom), and more practical (especially when going to the bathroom). You look fabulous in yours.

ReplyDeleteI ordered the bathing beauty 2 piece from modcloth last year in red polka dot. it was gorgeous but not very supportive of my bust (i'm a 38DD). I had to alter it and I used the neck-straps for my back and the back-straps around my neck to get better support... but overall, a good suit!
I just ordered the Sao Paul leopard bathing suit... hopefully I'll be able to do a review on my blog at some point in the future. Although, it's going to be hard to hold a candle to your banging beach look!

I wish so badly I could go back into time from about 13 until 28 and banish all the body shame I felt in bathing suits. (except for the summer I felt hottie mc hotterson around 23!) After I had my son, I suddenly felt the amazing powerfulness of what my body could do, and quit worrying about rolls and bumps. I was/am sexy! And when we make our annual beach treck, I am not going to relegate myself to cover-ups, sitting under an umbrella, hoping no one sees me. I am going to wear a halter top orange floral suit, dive into the waves, roast in the sun, and enjoy my seaside time! Why waste more summers wishing I were a waif? (and love your photos too...that suit is stunning!)

It's not your body or your suit that really draw my attention, it's the confidence you exude that's so alluring. "They" try to tell us that's the sexiest thing a woman can wear but you're actually proof of that. :)

My fiancé and I recently took a trip to Daytona Beach and all I heard from him was why don't you wear a bikini? It was hard enough to take off my cover up with a one piece...I managed to find something flattering, but it gives me confidence to see girls like you, and let's me know I'm not alone! :)
ReplyDeleteGabi: I just heard about your blog via an MSN link and stopped by to give my support. I love the line you wrote about not letting body shame keep you from having a good time. Those words ring true to me and I feel like I wasted my entire twenties feeling embarrassed by my body.
ReplyDeleteI am an average weight now, but when I was younger I was very skinny - so much so that I was ashamed of my body because I didn't feel curvy or feminine. Rather than feel too large for a bikini, I felt too small - particularly in the chest area. That kept me from having fun in the sun in the prime of my youth when I should have been having fun without worrying about other people's judgments of me, as you stated. Thank you for a sharing your experiences and sending such a positive message. It really applies to anyone - no matter your size.

ReplyDeleteI am not what you would consider a larger girl (clocking in on my worst days at 150 ish )but I saw the story on yahoo news, and went to Google to find this blog. I don't actively work out, but I have an outdoors job (a farmers tan!), and I eat as healthily as I can. I completely agree that the best thing to do is feel good in your body right now. I've been embarrassed so far about going to the beach with all these crazy tan lines I've got, and I've always been a little self-conscious of my body. Though I can't say I'm inspired to go to the beach RIGHT NOW, I can say that it was lovely to read this piece and see someone with a healthy and beautiful dose of confidence.
