spring swing

PSA: ASOS has posted the amazing denim shorts with lace on their site here

As most of you know, I really couldn't care less what store or section my clothing comes from...and I don't care about sizes either. Once you let go of the stigma surrounding clothing, it really makes life so much easier! I can shop at Salvation Army, Saks Fifth Avenue, Marc Jacobs, or Dress Barn--it's all the same to me. When looking good is my end goal, I don't care what I have to do to get there. That's why I think it's so funny that women are always so surprised that I openly wear maternity clothes! I find it's a great way to fit into straight size stuff, because (obviously) there's a little more room in the midsection. When you're plus size and you want to be well-dressed, you often have to get creative, and that means thinking outside the box. Anyway, I'll be the first to say when I'm wearing a maternity dress, and I have no shame about it. I fell in love with this one from ASOS Maternity and I prayed that it fit! I will say the arms are a bit tight, so if your arms are bigger, it may not work for you (unless you want to chop off the sleeves, which is what I'd do if I couldn't fit them). I wore this for the blogger dinner with Ashley Graham in Toronto (she's starting her own lingerie line!) and then again on Easter.

  2. I love that dress! Whenever I take a peek at maternity clothes, they hardly look as good as that.

  4. Your ASOS Maternity Exclusive Swing Dress With Floral Applique looks gorgeous! I like to check out maternity clothing lines myself. I love empire waists and blouson looks and I love Dressbarn too! Both of the blouses I wore in my last two posts (at http://www.full-brief-panties.blogspot.com/) were from Dressbarn. :) I love your Asos sunnies, lipstick and earrings too! What fabulous finds and a beautiful look!

  5. This is too good. I'm not ashamed of buying from mens or maternity. It's all the same to me. I love buying off ASOS maternity! I once wore a size 12 US top from ASOS maternity and it fit me just fine save for the arms which were a bit tight, but I could manage.

  9. Great dress! I absolutely agree with you about forgetting sizes when shopping. I have size medium, XXL and yes, maternity on my closet, too. Well done!

  10. I love the print on that dress! Can't believe it's maternity! I will look into it for me as well!

  11. such a cute outfit! i remember buying some stuff from the maternity section, they fit just as well and give a little bit more room for my belly!

  13. This might be my gateway to Asos. I find a lot of their Curve line too boxy. Looks great on the site, but when I order my size and put it on, it doesn't make any allowance for my curves at all.

  18. I buy from the maternity section frequently. As an apple shaped girl with big tummy and boobs but skinny arms, legs, and a flat booty, stuff from maternity usually fits me better than plus size clothing. I have no shame about it either because like you said, cute clothes are cute clothes. I especially love the tops because they tend to be longer.

  19. I do the same thing, but for a different reason. I have shopped in Target maternity for dresses because they fit my bust size.

You look amazing by the way. The dress is really cute.

  25. Im a size two, and I could care less about size! Have small, medium and larges in my wardrobe. I actually like my clothes loose fitting. You look amazing girl as always, but this is tres chic.

  31. Hey Gabi....I'm a curvy style blogger myself and shop a lot at ASOS Curve (size 16us/20uk). I'm now pregnant and I've been hesitant to order anything from ASOS Maternity due to the smaller sizes....in your opinion would a size 16/18us fit the ASOS maternity size 12 if it was stretchy fabrics and more loose styles?

    Thanks!

  33. I've never seen/know anyone who is plus size and looks as gorgeous as you. Living in Asia, i often feel being plus size is like a sin. People constantly comment on my weight stating that i NEED to lose weight. The only places to shop at are neighborhood stores specially with plus size clothes that makes you look 20 years older, and dorothy perkins. Thank god for online stores like old navy and ASOS that save lives. You're an inspiration and your blog is always so encouraging and pretty to look at! :)

  36. I have done the same thing! Maternity dresses from Old navy, I didn't even realize it until I looked at the tag! And it fit much better! I later discovered a few plus sized women who wear maternity and realized its a growing trend..when you have a big of a midsection but dont have broad shoulders or a big chest, some of the tops and dresses will just cut a little better, same with jeans.
Its totally worth a look if you looking for midsection friendly clothes! Apple Shape women should really look into it if you find in order to fit your size things are baggy on your hips

    Love >>love thats Asos dress!

  38. You go girl! I love the way you think about looking good, me too. Who cares about where something comes from or what size it is; as long as it looks good on you! Because size or size or how much you spend does NOT determine style. I have more style than any of the thin counterparts.

    ReplyDelete
  39. This dress is absolutely gorgeous. I pick outfits from the maternity section also. I also agree that it doesn't matter where a cute outfit comes from.

  72. My favorite fake leather jacket is a mens jacket. I'm sorry but I need that room in my shoulders since I have such a wide build! I hope this isn't rude, and you don't mind me asking but what size do you normally order in maternity? I never even thought of wearing maternity clothes. What a great idea! How do you suggest I find the best size in maternity clothes?
