#everyBODYisflawless

Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I'm a Beyonce STAN. Like, if The Beygency was a real thing, I would quit blogging tomorrow and become a full-time staff member. When her visual album dropped in December without any promotion, I was one of the people who stayed up overnight, watching each video on repeat, crying in my room at how perfect it was. As a stan, I know that no one touches Beyonce, and I know what I'm about to say might sound sort of crazy...but I kind of...relate to her? On a tiny, tiny, microscopic scale, of course. I'm no celebrity, but it can be hard being in the public eye, even as a blogger. I am aware I get a lot of opportunities, and I'm grateful for each and every one. But what I don't talk about publicly is what goes on behind the scenes.

As a fat woman of color, I'm often treated differently than my thin, white peers. By brands, by fellow bloggers, by the media... I get passed over for things I'm more than qualified for. I get stares and cold shoulders at fashion events. I hear whispers. I get hate mail and trolling comments from people who call me disgusting and say I shouldn't be allowed in public. Like Bey, I usually just brush these people off, and I never give them power by addressing them here or anywhere else. But it gets tiring, and sometimes I'm really tempted to drop the lady-like thing and just kind of...go off. So when I heard Beyonce telling her haters to Bow Down in the song ***Flawless, I immediately fell in love.

I knew I wanted to do something with it, so I called up two other major players in the plus size fashion world who I know also deal with their fair share of shitty people, the gorgeous Nadia Aboulhosn and game-changer Tess Munster, and asked if they'd be interested in collaborating on a video. I wanted to show that 1) we are not competing to be the Top Dog in our niche--we are supportive of each other and are all working toward the same goal: body positivity and inclusivity. And 2) you don't have to be a certain size to claim your flawlessness. Fat is not a flaw. This video is dedicated to the mainstream media, to the fashion industry, to internet bullies, and to anyone else who thinks it's their right to try to make us feel less than because of their insecurities. #everyBODYisflawless

We had a ton of fun shooting! Hope you guys enjoy!

  1. This is wonderful! I especially liked reading your words (and feelings) on this topic. The video was a great way to address the people who think it is their place to comment negatively and continuously on the bodies of women (fat, thin and everything in between). Great job!

  46. this video gave me so much inspiration, you need something liberating at times and it came at the right time for me, I'm watching it over and over again. I know exactly what you mean about the system as a blogger, I am no one but in Italy the only fact that you are not a blogger from abraod makes you smaller in the industry, and as a plus size blogger more so. I guess that haters come only when you scare someone and this means that they don't actually see you that small. They see you've got something different and this makes them mad. I have learnt so much from the way you ignore the negativity, seriously. Thanks

  47. You have no idea how it improves ourselves! You're some kind of doctor for our bodies and minds, and I must say that you inspire to be a better person, to feel good with myself. I wanna say: Thank You, you're the best! <3

  48. I read this the day you posted this right before (literally minutes before) the following incident happened to me. I just wanted to come back and say thank you.
so one night i had fallen asleep on the couch for like 20 min
and it was my turn to walk my two dogs so I woke up and was like crap, lemme do this real fast. So i get them ready and head outside (it was one of those balmy may nights we had)
so I'm in an old navy skater dress (super cute!)
i get downstairs and I'm like wayment, i feel a lot more air back here then I did during the day...oh snap did my dress ride up and expose more of me than it should be?
so I feel back by my butt and legs and make sure that the dress is where it should be (and it was it was just windy i guess)
anyways, this dude on a bike rides by and was like "I saw you pick that wedgie you fat fuck."
legit, it took me a couple of seconds to realize that he meant to insult me.
I start laughing and scream out MUHFUCKA I'M FLAWLESS.. I WAKE UP FLAWLESS AND ALL DIS===FLAWLESS
and that's the story of how beyonce and you helped me fight street harassment
